My name is Michelle Dutton. I was born and raised in Fremont, Nebraska with two loving parents, 2 older sisters, and a variety of animals! Upon graduating from Fremont High School in 1990, I attended UNL as a pre-vet major. I quickly decided that animals may not be the best direction to head...so I went with the next best thing...KIDS!!!!
I graduated from UNO and was very fortunate to land a student teaching job right here at Eagle Elementary with Mrs. Janet Ronhovde, teaching 2nd grade. It was an awesome experience and I learned so much and quickly knew that teaching in a small community was for me.
Soon after graduating, I married my best friend and signed-up for the military-wife life! Jim, my husband, was a lieutenant in the Navy and after a quick pit stop in Providence, Rhode Island, his first assignment was aboard the USS Chandler out of Everett, WA. I did some subbing in Washington and was impressed with the schools out there (as well as the scenery), but soon took some time off after the birth of our first daughter.
After 2 years in Washington, Jim was offered a recruiting job here in Nebraska, so we quickly jumped at the chance to get back home. At that same time, a job opened up here at Eagle Elementary...I know...what luck!! So, in 2000 I began my career here at Eagle Elementary. The last 13 years have gone by so quickly and I still cannot believe that I have been here that long. (That also means I'm aging!) I have taught 5th, 1st, and 2nd grade during my time here at Eagle. Although I really enjoy the 5th graders, 2nd grade seems to be my calling. It is so amazing to see these little minds work. Reading is my passion and all of my students will tell you just how excited I can get over books. Watching kids grow as readers is heaven to my eyes, especially when they start to read with expression.
Just like changing grade levels here at school, my home life has changed in the last 13 years as well. I had two more daughters who attend school in the Waverly School District. Our oldest, Kaelyn is in 10th grade and is a very talented trumpet player. Maddie, our middle daughter, is in 6th grade, and soccer is her passion. Maddie also plays the trumpet, so it can get a little loud in our house at times. Our youngest, Emily, is in 2nd grade, and she just tries to keep up with the hustle and bustle of a busy family while following in her older sister's footsteps and becoming quite a skilled little soccer player. My husband Jim has decided that watching his children grow up needed to be his first priority, so we said good-bye to military life and he is currently the manager at the Terry Bundy Generating Station. This power plant is owned by LES and is located by the windmills along the interstate. He loves his job, but more importantly enjoys being able to attend all of his daughters' events.
In my 'spare' time, I enjoy scrapbooking the many pictures that I take weekly (I think there might be a little bit of photographer inside somewhere), reading, decorating my house, planting flowers, and spending as much time with my family.
